Born out of a dream
We had a dream.. To sell butterflies.
‘One night I couldn’t fall asleep. I was only 15 but my dreams were bigger than anything. I dreamt about a swimwear brand, imagined a few designs, the logo and the whole aesthetic. I woke up in the morning with an idea, ran to my parents and said- I will make swimwear called Danae. The brand was born.’ Danaya Daneva
The dream team
After the initial release in Bulgaria, the brand took a year break. No designs were created, no sales were made but the desire to create persevered.
In London, the founder was already working on another project alongside her business partner Eleonora, when they had a call- to give Danae a new life but this time in the rainy London.
Combining the best of both the brand now has a new look and bright future ahead.
The essence
To make a change in the way women feel or put simply- to give confidence. Our designs take inspiration from art, nature, history and of course great women. Danae was a greek princess famous for her beauty and seductiveness. She later inspired many artist to paint the famous mythological scene ‘Golden Rain’. Zeus turned himself into golden rain and broke into the bronze chamber Danae was locked in. This union gave birth to their child Perseus- a legend mythological figure who beheaded the Gorgon Medusa.

All Danae designs come from unique vision and commitment to quality. The designs often require unconventional use of materials and craftmanship which is only possible by the work of a skilled team of tailors. We produce small in the EU using high quality italian fabrics and support local communities in East Europe.
